How to Extract Text from an Image on jpg.now
Go to the Image to Text tool and upload your file by dragging and dropping it or clicking the upload area. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and PDF. Click Extract Text and wait a few seconds. The extracted text appears in a text box you can copy from or download as a .txt file.
What Types of Images Work Best
OCR accuracy depends on image quality. The best results come from:
- High contrast - Dark text on a light background
- Straight alignment - Text not rotated or skewed more than ~15°
- Sufficient resolution - At least 150 DPI; phone photos are usually fine
- Clear font - Printed text is more accurate than cursive handwriting
For low-quality scans, blurry photos, or handwriting, Premium users can activate AI OCR mode which uses a language model to correct and infer characters that standard OCR misses.
Extracting Text from PDFs
PDFs come in two types: text PDFs (where text is already selectable) and image PDFs (scanned documents where each page is a raster image). The Image to Text tool processes image PDFs by running OCR on each page and concatenating the results. Upload your PDF the same way as an image - The tool detects it automatically.
If you need to extract from a text PDF, most PDF readers let you select and copy text directly without needing OCR.
Supported Languages
jpg.now's OCR engine supports 60+ languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and more. The engine auto-detects the language in most cases. If detection fails for a less common language, you can manually select the language from the dropdown before extracting.
